The following analysis is based on National Response Center incident reports. The NRC is the federal point of contact for all oil and chemical releases. Analysis resulted in 3,553 projectable points from 4,888 original records. Of the 3,553 mapped incidents in 2010, 83.2 percent were in federal Gulf of Mexico waters. This is up from 77 percent the previous year.
