Government Auctions Gulf of Mexico as New Report Details Hundreds of Offshore Accidents in 2016

WHAT: The federal government is auctioning 48 million acres of our Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, March 22nd. This tele press conference is the release of a new report detailing all of the offshore accidents reported to the National Response Center in 2016.

WHO: Geographer Dr. Ezra Boyd of DisasterMap.Net and Anne Rolfes of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade who has been following petrochemical accidents in Louisiana since 2000. Renate Heurich of 350.org who is a Climate Leader, having completed the training in Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project.

WHY: The oil industry is an ongoing disaster for Louisiana. The state of Louisiana bears an ongoing burden of pollution and is also among the most vulnerable regions to climate change. We simply cannot burn the oil in the Gulf of Mexico and retain a habitable planet.
