Dear Secretary Jewell:
We are writing to you today to urge you to implement the federal government’s proposed offshore drilling safety rule, including provisions for blowout preventers. The eleven lives lost during the BP Disaster are a clear and tragic example of why these rules are needed.
We learned from news reports that Louisiana’s Governor‐elect John Bel Edwards wrote to you questioning these rules. We respectfully disagree with our Governor‐elect.
We need strong federal laws to protect our lives, our children, our environment, our coast, our fisheries, our seafood, our culture and our way of life. Ordinary people in Louisiana are behind the Department of the Interior’s push for stronger safety measures.
