Locally made Mardi Gras throws hit the streets for Krewe of OAK this weekend

| Press Releases

What: ZomBeads - Mardi Gras ReMade in New Orleans - will be at the Krewe of OAK to show off its line of throws for 2015 Mardi Gras.

When: Saturday night, August 23rd. The "Outrageous and Kinky Parade" starts from the Maple Leaf Bar (8316 Oak Street) at 7:30 pm.

Why: The market for Mardi Gras throws is enormous. A conservative estimate of the amount spent on foreign-produced beads alone is $11.78 million annually. Diverting this money back into the economy of New Orleans can be a significant impact on the local economy. Mardi Gras is a great cultural event. Production of throws should happen here in New Orleans and be a great economic engine for our region.

Who: ZomBeads is a socially conscious, community-driven local business that believes in Mardi Gras ReMade in New Orleans. We work with local artists and manufacturers to design and produce throws made from locally sourced, sustainable and recycled materials because a successful Mardi Gras shouldn't be based on trash and petrochemicals.
Profits from ZomBeads support the work of the local environmental and social justice non-profit organization, the Louisiana Bucket Brigade (labucketbrigade.org). We hope to reduce our cultural dependency on the petrochemical industry while simultaneously celebrating the unique history and culture of Carnival and the amazing spirit of the region.
