WHO: Renate Brown of 350.org who is a Climate Leader, having completed the training in Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. Geographer Dr. Ezra Boyd of DisasterMap.Net and Anne Rolfes of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade who has been following petrochemical accidents in Louisiana since 2000.
WHY: Because of the oil industry’s relentless pollution, climate change and health impacts. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric found the August floods were due, in part, to the climate change that comes from burning fossil fuels (like oil). And in 2015 there were an average of 44 accidents a week: 2,307 offshore and inland accidents as reported to the federal government’s National Response Center.
