What: The Concerned Citizens of Norco represent the African American neighborhood of Diamond that is only feet away from Shell Chemical plant. The community members have long believed that the health problems that they suffer -- from asthma and cancer to skin problems and developmental delays in children -- come from the emissions at Shell Chemical.
Groundbreaking findings by Dr. Peter Orris, a nationally renowned toxicologist, confirm that the community does have cause to be concerned about their health, and indicate that their concerns are only the tip of the iceberg.
Dr. Peter Orris received his undergraduate degree from Harvard, his Masters in Public Health from Yale and his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He is an expert at recognizing the link between pollution and illness. He is currently the Chief of Service of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital and Medical Center.
