Oil Industry Accident Awareness Month (OIAAM)

Oil refineries in Louisiana have an average of 6 accidents a week, releasing harmful chemicals into surrounding communities. These chemicals include respiratory irritants and carcinogens that cause harmful health effects on nearby residents. However, many of these accidents are preventable if companies would perform routine maintenance and make the necessary upgrades to protect their workers and neighbors.

Oil Industry Accident Awareness Month (OIAAM) seeks to raise awareness about the frequency and preventability of oil industry accidents and their malignant effects on communities. During the month of November, OIAAM will feature events of all types while highlighting the great work of organizations striving to hold the oil industry accountable.
