CADA plans weekend march activities as Poor People’s Campaign links up in La.

The Coalition Against Death Alley (CADA) has scheduled activities in Geismar, St. Gabriel and Plaquemines over the weekend as the March Against Death Alley continues.

The two-week campaign against petrochemical pollution and environmental injustice enjoyed a huge show of support Wednesday, Oct. 23 from The Poor People’s Campaign and its widely acclaimed spokesman, the Rev, William J. Barber, Jr. Barber is a nationally recognized speaker and advocate on issues of poverty, systemic racism and ecological destruction. He urged marchers to carry their message all the way to the State Capitol.

Here’s a look at events scheduled through the weekend and into next week:

Saturday, 10/26

  • 9am Board bus at 400 N. Carrollton
  • 10:30am CF Industries, off Hwy 70
  • 11:30 Walk half-mile on Hwy 73 in Geismar starting at River Rd.
  • 1pm Drive to Hunt Correctional Center on Hwy 74. Rally for 30 minutes
  • 1:45pm Park on Monticello Rd. Drive, walk to Government Complex
  • 2 – 2:30pm Rally at Government Complex in St. Gabriel. Demand that community exercise its power over the petrochemical industry and protect the community
  • 3pm-4pm Drive to Rev. Georgetown’s church in St. Gabriel for late lunch
  • 4-5pm Rally at church

Sunday 10/27

  • 9am Board bus at 400 N. Carrollton, pick up people from St. James and St. John at Exxon Truck stop on I10 and Hwy 44
  • 8-11:30am New Covenant Baptist Church, 59185 Darby, Plaquemine, Rev. Jenkins Church Service
  • 11:45-12:45pm LA 405 South travel to Evergreen Road West. The Revilletown Cemetery and Community
  • 2pm Heading north on Scenic Hwy, passing through Southern University and past Exxon
  • 3pm Drive to Rollins waste disposal superfund site which has been shut down, picket

Monday 10/28

  • 9am Board bus at 400 N. Carrollton, pick up people from St. James and St. John at Exxon Truck stop on I10 and Hwy 44
  • 11:30am Graveyard at Morrisonville
  • 12noon Dow Chemical, Hwy 1 and Frontage Road, rally.
  • 2-3pm Drive to Exxon, Placid and the Sunrise Community (extinct)

Tuesday 10/29 – Rest day

Wednesday, 10/30

  • 9am Board bus at 400 N. Carrollton pick up people from St. James and St. John at Exxon Truck stop on I10 and Hwy 44
  • 11am Rally at LABI (451 Florida St, Baton Rouge, LA 70801) Florida and 4th
  • 11:30-12:30 March on sidewalk from LABI (451 Florida St, Baton Rouge, LA 70801) to Chemical Industry Assoc. and LDEQ (North and 4th) and Dept of Health and Hospitals, rally
  • 12:30pm Take bus to governor’s mansion for picnic under the trees. Ask leaders of Republicans and Democrats and to LABI to join
  • 1:30-2:30 Rally at Governor’s Mansion

  • BAN INDUSTRIAL EMISSIONS WITHIN 5 MILES OF PUBLIC SPACES
  • EITHER CURB PRODUCTION AT DENKA TO STAY UNDER THE EPA-RECOMMENDED LIMIT FOR CHLOROPRENE EMISSIONS OR SHUT DENKA DOWN
  • SHUT DOWN MOSAIC AND REMOVE THE TOXIC RADIOACTIVE GYPSUM WASTE MATERIAL THAT IS POSING A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK
  • COVER HEALTHCARE COSTS INCURRED BY RESIDENTS DUE TO POLLUTION EXPOSURE
  • END THE INDUSTRIAL TAX EXEMPTION PROGRAM
