Hot off the press! Down by the River makes the cover of The Gambit

It was truly a delight to have the Down by the River bike ride featured on the cover of the weekly New Orleans paper, the Gambit, last week! I’ve lived in New Orleans for a long time, leading bike rides and telling stories of resistance and revolution, and I feel honored to be mentioned alongside Pastor Joseph of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church and Rural Roots LA. For decades, he and our other community partners in the River Parishes have been leading the charge of resistance against polluting industry, and amplifying the voices of our neighbors who are pushing progress forward.

As our government does its best to make us feel like there’s nothing that can be done to stop industrial expansion, our bike ride explains how Louisiana has led the charge of resistance time and again through the context of the 1811 Slave Revolt, the largest in U.S. History.

The story of this revolution gives us the unfiltered truth of how government and industry have been working in concert to prioritize profit over people since it’s inception. Check out our feature in the Gambit to learn more about the ride or visit our web page to reserve a spot in our upcoming ride June 6th.

Thanks for standing with us,
