In a marsh near the Gulf of Mexico shoreline, under a blue sky with white pelicans and bright pink roseate spoonbills flying overhead, John Allaire grabs a fishnet and runs it through the brackish water.

Caught in the green mesh are several juvenile red drum fish and tiny, translucent shrimp. He cups them in his hand before releasing them back in the marsh water.
