MEDIA ADVISORY: Advocates to Oppose Air Permits for Moss Lake Compressor Station at Public Hearing

Hearing focuses on proposed permits to facilitate Venture Global infrastructure expansion in Calcasieu Parish

(Sulphur, LA)

FOR PLANNING PURPOSES

Residents and fishermen who are protecting their communities from industry expansion will present their concerns to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) at a public hearing on Tuesday, February 18. The hearing will address the fast-tracked air permit requests for the proposed Moss Lake Compressor Station in Calcasieu Parish. The station is part of the proposed Calcasieu Pass (CP) Express Pipeline Project, a 91-mile-long pipeline that would transfer flammable gas to the CP2 LNG Terminal – a facility that has not yet been authorized for construction.

Local residents and fishermen who rely on the region for their livelihood strongly oppose these permits and the expansion of Venture Global facilities in the region due to concerns over air quality, environmental and health risks, and the safety of nearby communities. Venture Global’s own reports to the state detail a troubled track record of ongoing pollution and shoddy operations. At Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG facility in Cameron Parish, frequent accidents, equipment malfunctions, flaring, and emissions exceedances evidence significant mismanagement and operational failures. The lack of consequences for these ongoing problems lets Venture Global avoid responsibility for its failures, treating permits as mere formalities that can be routinely violated and then increased. Fishermen and residents are calling for stricter safeguards and better enforcement to protect their lives and livelihoods.
