MEDIA ADVISORY: Bond Hearing Monday: Louisiana Public Facilities Authority
Considering Tax-Exempt Bonds Up to $900 Million Dollars for Hyundai
(Ascension Parish, LA)
WHEN: Monday, September 14, 2026. Hearing starts at 10 am according to this notice
WHAT: This hearing is in regard to yet more public financing for the proposed Hyundai Steel facility on the west bank of Ascension Parish. This announcement represents additional public financing of up to $900 million dollars in tax-exempt revenue bonds. The date of the public notice for this bond issuance is 9/3/26, giving the public eleven days notice to comment on a bond that is nearly a billion dollars.
WHO: Residents of Ascension Parish, including Rural Roots Louisiana, and the Louisiana Bucket Brigade and the groups’ attorneys.
WHERE: The office of the Louisiana Public Facilities Authority, 2237 South Acadian Thruway, Suite 650, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
WHY: This hearing is yet another vehicle to give tax exemptions to Hyundai. The state of Louisiana is already giving massive amounts of money to Hyundai steel, including over $100 million directly to Hyundai for construction and over $300 million dollars to buy land and build a road and rail for Hyundai. Ascension Parish residents believe that level of investment in local businesses and people would result in more jobs and less destruction than Hyundai. In addition to money for the project, the state is giving tax exemptions and issuing bonds, like the one proposed today.
