The dump trucks are still terrorizing Modeste, so much so that they’re damaging the highways. People can’t sleep at night from the roaring engines. And all because the state of Louisiana and Ascension Parish government are determined to further industrialize the west bank of Ascension Parish. We believe they are already damaging wetlands, an area that should be protected – not targeted for hurry up greed.

And it’s not just Modeste. Gulf States Newsroom has reported on the destruction in north Louisiana. People there are victim to a data center. The Governor’s 2025 Lightning Speed executive order is one of the mechanisms contributing to the rush. Don’t forget that so many of these projects involve non-disclosure agreements. What a combination: speed + secrecy.

In Ascension Parish, we believe the quest for speed and secrecy has created a fatal flaw in their process. It’s why we sued the Port of South Louisiana and Louisiana Economic Development earlier this month for their financing scheme. We are confident that we can stop them, but how much destruction will they foist on Modeste in the meantime?

As we stand up to these bullies, we are working toward what the people of Modeste want: an area that prioritizes recreation and conservation. Isn’t that better for all of us?
