Campaign Assistant, LA Bucket Brigade

The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is a 501(c)(3) environmental health and justice organization working with communities that neighbor the state’s oil refineries and chemical plants. We use grassroots action to create an informed, healthy society that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution to hasten the transition from fossil fuels. Our vision is a Louisiana that is a healthy, prosperous, pollution-free and just state where people and the environment are valued over profit.

 

Purpose of Position: The purpose of the Campaign Assistant is to work with other campaign staff to assure that our campaigns are successful and smoothly run. 

Job Title: Campaign Assistant

Reports to: Campaign staff (maybe Campaign Coordinator, Campaign Director or Executive Director)

Job Status: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Salary: $35,000 annually

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Community engagement

  1. Conduct outreach and engage community members to participate in ongoing activities – town halls, press conferences, parish council meetings, zoom briefings and other events.
  2. Secure logistics of all events, including sound systems, sign-in sheets, food as necessary etc. 
  3. Form and maintain relationships with community members
  4. Establish a database of community contacts and add to lists in the database system
  5. Manage communication systems (phone, email and text lists)
  6. Organize phone banks / mass texting as necessary to get community involvement

Campaign Coordination and Implementation

  1. Create and maintain relationships with other organizations doing similar work
  2. Support research, media and other teams working on the campaign.
  3. Remain abreast of relevant news; monitor local news outlets and inform co-workers and community members of relevant information.
  4. Assist with publicity and public events
  5. Help organize meetings with public officials and agencies and hold them accountable to their promises
  6. Represent the Louisiana Bucket Brigade as requested in relevant meetings and in calls among partners
  7. Recruit volunteers to assist with work

Media / Communication

  1. Maintain press lists
  2. Help organize press conferences
  3. Support area residents in taking public stands, including speaking to the media, writing letters to the editor, creating  social media content, and more
  4. Support implementation of a media campaign
  5. Participate in interviews with researchers/college students
  6. Create  reports/fact sheets/pamphlets for the campaign

Experience and Qualifications

  • Hardworking, kind with a deep commitment to racial justice
  • Detail-oriented
  • Great with people
  • Familiarity with Salsa Labs CRM software is a plus
  • Have an interest if not direct experience in campaigning
  • Ability to keep components of campaigns moving forward
  • Flexible and adaptable as campaigns and relationships evolve
  • Ability to research and compile essential content and data  
  • Comfortable working in faith-based communities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Requirements 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination status.
