Campaign Coordinator, LA Bucket Brigade

The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is a 501(c)(3) environmental health and justice organization working with communities that neighbor the state’s oil refineries and chemical plants. We use grassroots action to create an informed, healthy society that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution to hasten the transition from fossil fuels. Our vision is a Louisiana that is a healthy, prosperous, pollution-free, and just state where people and the environment are valued over profit.

Purpose of Position: The purpose of the Campaign Coordinator is to bring opportunity to Louisiana and to establish an East Coast component to our campaigns. This component is needed to reach federal officials who are making decisions regarding additional fossil fuel infrastructure in Louisiana.

Job Title: Campaign Coordinator

Reports to: Campaign Director

Job Status: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Salary: $50,000 annually

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Government Relations
    1. Identify and pursue opportunities within all levels of government, with an emphasis on state renewable energy programs and the federal government’s Justice40 Initiative.
    2. Work with Southwest Louisiana Campaign Coordinator to engage federal decision-makers on relevant matters, including pipelines and liquified natural gas terminals. 
    3. Support partner organizations in their advocacy campaigns.
    4. Establish and maintain database of contacts
  • Campaign Coordination and Implementation
    1. Help develop a campaign focused on D.C. based decision-makers on fossil fuel projects
    2. Serve as lead coordinator and implement the campaign.
    3. Identify organizations, likely based in D.C., that can help with the implementation
    4.  Coordinate research, media, and other teams working on the campaign.
    5. Identify and pursue opportunities to advance the campaign
    6. Assure publicity and public events regarding the targets at least twice a month.
    7. Represent the Louisiana Bucket Brigade in relevant meetings and in calls among all partners.
    8. Recruit a team of volunteers to assist with work.
  • Media / Communication
    1. Work with the communications team to organize press conferences
    2. Support area residents in taking public stands, including speaking to the media, writing letters to the editor, creating  social media content, and more
    3. Support implementation of media campaign
    4. Create  reports/fact sheets/pamphlets for the campaign

Experience and Qualifications

  • Hardworking, kind with a deep commitment to racial justice
  • At least two years of experience in a relevant campaign
  • Ability to see opportunities and create dramatic moments in a campaign.
  • Ability to keep components of campaign moving forward.
  • Comfortable working in faith-based communities
  • Experience working with the media in some capacity
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and efficient
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Requirements 

  • Must be fully vaccinated, including boosters,  against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination status. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
