PRESS RELEASE: Louisiana Bucket Brigade Responds to Venture Global LNG’s Initial Public Offering
(New Orleans, LA)
The Louisiana Bucket Brigade released the following statement in response to Venture Global’s initial public offering. The statement should be attributed to Anne Rolfes.
“In 2022, before Venture Global even began liquefaction, the company released over 180,000 pounds of gas from a storage tank. As Venture Global seeks an initial public offering, investors should understand that the Cameron Parish facility has had consistent operational problems. Since the very moment this company arrived in Louisiana, it has displaced our neighbors and actively sown distrust in our communities.
The slashing of its initial public offering from $110 billion to $63 billion showcases what we already know—Venture Global LNG is a risky investment. Its 432-acre liquified natural gas export facility in Cameron Parish has been plagued with lawsuits, equipment failures, flaring and emissions violations that have endangered employees and the community at large.
Perhaps most troubling for potential investors is Venture Global’s failure to uphold its most basic contracts. That is why the company is facing legal action by other fossil fuel companies, former employees, and by the family of its former board members. This, combined with the company’s failure to comply with state regulations and reporting requirements makes Venture Global a risky investment. We encourage potential investors to consider the risks of financing a company that blatantly disregards safety, regulatory, and legal requirements.”
