PRESS RELEASE: Provocative New Campaign Asks Rehoboth Beachgoers: Would DC Politicians Allow Gas Export Terminals Here?

Louisiana Hurricane Survivors and Former Oil Industry Workers Make 1,400-Mile Trek from Gulf Coast to Presidential Beach Town to Launch Defend Louisiana Campaign Defend Louisiana aims to celebrate and preserve Cajun culture by stopping the destructive spread of gas terminals and highlighting “the tale of two coasts”

When D.C.-area residents head to their favorite beachside resort town this summer, they’ll be welcomed by some new sights. A provocative new campaign will be asking beachgoers if elected officials in Washington would ever allow Rehoboth Beach to be destroyed the same way the Gulf Coast of Louisiana is being devastated by liquified gas export terminals.

In addition to provoking thought in the minds of beachgoers, the campaign has another goal: calling on longtime Rehoboth visitor President Joe Biden to stop the permitting of gas export terminals, dubbed “LNGs” by the fossil fuel industry.

“No one in Washington would ever let the oil and gas industry destroy this beautiful place,” says James Hiatt, a former oil and gas industry worker and Lake Charles, Louisiana resident, “but that’s exactly what they allow on the Gulf Coast every day.”

“Up here, it’s taken for granted that families have beaches and open places to enjoy, but in Louisiana, we’re left with polluted air, filthy water, and whole beaches consumed by gas export terminals” he continued.

In addition to a provocative new ad campaign, which will blanket newspapers, social media, billboards, aerial advertising and more, the Coalition to Defend Louisiana will be bringing Louisiana culture to the east coast with food, music, and events that encourage beachgoers to celebrate and defend Louisiana. On Tuesday, June 28, the group will launch the campaign to Defend Louisiana with a press conference and Facebook livestream event at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.
