Thursday – please come!
Yesterday we packed the house at the hearing for still more money for Hyundai. This time it was a $900 million revenue bond, essentially a loan for this multinational corporation. Why, exactly, does Hyundai need a loan from the impoverished state of Louisiana? Surely the corporation can go to the bank like the rest of us. No sooner had we commented on the proposal than we learned from the chair of the hearing that the bond is already going on to the next step of the process, before the State Bond Commission this Thursday.
Welcome to our world. The massive, never-ending parade of public money for Hyundai moves quickly. This project has been secretive from the start, and the government financing seems to be moving all the faster now that we are shedding light on Louisiana’s transfer of wealth to a corporation that’s not even from our state.
We thank you for showing up yesterday and urge you to show up again on Thursday.
WHERE: State Capitol Building, Senate Committee Room A-B
WHEN: 9 am on Thursday, September 17th
A reporter asked me if it’s really possible to stop this. Of course it is, and the accelerated pace on the part of the government and Hyundai shows we’re on to something.
Thank you for standing with us,

P.S. Here is a link to the Bond Commission Agenda. Note there are TWO bonds from TWO different entities on the agenda (61 and #65) for Hyundai. The commission often flies through the agenda, so be there at nine!
