St. Rose Kicks off Oil Pollution Awareness Month

WHO: St. Rose Community One Voice and the Louisiana Bucket Brigade

WHAT: Food, games for kids, information about air monitoring and more. The event is the kickoff of November as Oil Pollution Awareness Month. Please visit the event Facebook page.

WHEN: Noon – 4 pm, Saturday, November 1st

WHERE: Dupre Place - 11414 River Road

WHY: The St. Rose Community has come together since early June, when terrible odors from Shell /  IMTT began to make people sick. Since that time the community has:

  • Pressured the state Department of Environmental Quality to conduct additional air monitoring
  • Documented over 400 cases of pollution in the neighborhood
  • Presented this documentation and the St. Rose story in Washington D.C. to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Gina McCarthy.

Louisiana has a serious pollution problem; there are an average of 6 refinery accidents per week and thousands more in the Gulf of Mexico. These accidents have serious consequences for our air, water, and health.

Join us as we celebrate the hard work of St. Rose Community One Voice to prevent pollution and hold industry responsible.
