The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is a 501(c)(3) environmental health and justice organization working with communities that neighbor the state’s oil refineries and chemical plants. We use grassroots action to create an informed, healthy society that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution to hasten the transition from fossil fuels. Purpose of Position: The purpose of the Campaign Coordinator is to assure the smooth functioning and successful implementation of  Louisiana Bucket Brigade campaigns. This Lake Charles based position will be focused on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Terminals proposed for Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes.

Job Title: Campaign Coordinator

Reports to: Campaign Director

Job Status: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Salary: $53,000 annually, with health benefits

Location: Lake Charles, Louisiana

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Community organizing
      1. Conduct outreach to people impacted by LNGs and engage them in ongoing activities – town halls, press conferences, zoom updates and other events.
      2. Manage logistics of all events.
      3. Maintain contacts and relationships
      4. Establish database of contacts
      5. Manage communication systems (phone, email and text lists)
      6. Work with Digital Marketing Coordinator to create flyers, ads, and other info as necessary
      7. Organize Zoom calls and briefings with community members
  • Campaign Coordination and Implementation
      1. Remain in touch with people taking on projects in other parts of the state
      2.  Coordinate research, media and other teams working on the campaign.
      3. Identify and pursue opportunities to advance the campaign
      4. Assure publicity and public events regarding the targets at least twice a month.
      5. Represent the Louisiana Bucket Brigade in relevant meetings and in calls among all partners, including those groups working on LNGs.
      6. Lead public comments campaigns
      7. Recruit team of volunteers to assist with work
  • Media / Communication
      1. Serve as point person with media team; coordinate contract, reply promptly to all communications and assure deliverables are met.
      2. Organize press conferences
      3. Support area residents in taking public stands, including speaking to the media, writing letters to the editor, creating social media content and more
      4. Support implementation of media campaign
      5. Participate in interviews with researchers/college students
      6. Create reports/fact sheets/pamphlets for the campaign

Experience and Qualifications

  • Hardworking, kind with a deep commitment to racial justice
  • At least two years of experience in a relevant campaign
  • Ability to see opportunities and create dramatic moments in a campaign.
  • Ability to keep components of campaign moving forward.
  • Comfortable working in faith based communities
  • Experience working with the media in some capacity
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and efficient
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Requirements

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination status.
