PRESS RELEASE: Southwest Louisianans to Join Climate Week NYC, Demand Biden, Global Leaders Defend Gulf Coast, Deny Gas Export Terminal Permits

Attendees will participate in marches, protests and nonviolent direct actions targeting Biden, the United Nations, Bank of America and AIG

(New York, NY)

A delegation of Southwest Louisianans will travel to New York City to participate in demonstrations to protect their homes and livelihoods from the gas export terminal buildout in the Gulf Coast during Climate Week NYC. The delegates will participate in the March to End Fossil Fuels, rallies during the United Nation’s Climate Ambition Summit, and nonviolent direct actions focused on institutions that fund and insure fossil fuel projects. These institutions include Bank of America and AIG, a company that insures the Freeport LNG gas export terminal.

Southwest Louisianans are resisting the onslaught of gas export terminals along their coast. During the LNG Summit of the Americas in Lake Charles, shrimpers and fishermen organized a flotilla of shrimp boats to hold signs saying,‘We Won’t Take the Bait, LNG Out of Our State’, outside of the conference.Gas export terminals are decimating Louisiana’s seafood industry by not only destroying once abundant fishing grounds, but also clogging channels with massive tankers that block fishermen’s and shrimpers’ access to the few fishing grounds they can access.
